A Love Letter to the Bat Run 2025

Waking up to the howling South Easter this morning, it’s a reminder of how lucky we were to have perfect conditions for Bat Run 2025. What an absolute privilege it was to light up the aid station at the base of Platteklip, witnessing the faces of runners full of fight, joy, pain, and perseverance.

The Bat Run isn’t just a race. It’s more than just a cult event—it’s a celebration of our breathtaking backyard, a tribute to the strength of our running community, and a salute to the friends of Table Mountain who preserve our city’s wild spaces. The Bat Run is how we defy the dark, how we challenge our limits, and how we push beyond.

To the Supporters:

You were the hype, the bell, the chime, the cheer—you brought the gees!!

To the Volunteers:

One moment captured the spirit of the night perfectly:

Volunteer: “How you doing, man?”

Runner: “I’m really suffering.”

Volunteer: “Is it your body, are you cramping? Or is it your mind?”

Volunteer: “You can fight through that, man. Come, let’s get you something to eat and back on your way!”

To all the volunteers—you rock our world. You are the fuel that keeps us all moving forward!

To the Athletes:

To those incredible athletes pushing through the nerves, the pain, even moments of nausea—we see you. We see how you pull it together and finish the Bat Run, and we’re in awe.

To the Organizers:

@stuaay , Sue, Alana, Julian, Jaime, and the entire team—you’ve built something truly special. Thank you for keeping us safe, fueling our sense of adventure, and growing the sport we love. You don’t just organize—you preserve, maintain, and care. A thousand thank yous from the Black Diamond and Scarpa community.
